Selwyn Cobbo makes stunning call to quit as Broncos teammate signs with South Sydney

Selwyn Cobbo has reportedly informed the Brisbane Broncos that he will not be with the club in 2026, bringing an end to weeks of speculation.

The Broncos can currently offer Cobbo only about $300,000 for a one-year contract extension, significantly less than his potential earnings elsewhere.

Despite the Broncos' desire for him to stay, they've indicated that it would only be possible if he accepts a pay cut.

On Friday, The Courier Mail reported that Cobbo has decided to leave, with the St.

George Illawarra Dragons initially seen as front-runners to sign him.

However, they withdrew their interest, suspecting Cobbo was using them as leverage in negotiations.

The North Queensland Cowboys have now emerged as the likely destination, with coach Todd Payten confirming the club has shown interest: "We've had a discussion, but that's as far as it's gone at the moment.

It all depends on what he is asking and what they are expecting.

We haven't got that far down the line yet.

We always consider quality players and the price point is the determining factor."

Cobbo has recently fallen out of favor with the Broncos, having been dropped to reserve grade three weeks ago.

In his absence, Josiah Karapani, who replaced him on the wing, has made an impressive impact, scoring four tries in two games and securing a two-year contract extension, further complicating Cobbo's path back to the first team.
