The Sydney Roosters face a challenge in securing a finals spot as coach Trent Robinson announced that hardman Victor Radley will be sidelined for a month due to a shoulder injury, beginning with a crucial match against the Storm.

Robinson has decided to bring playmaker Sandon Smith back into the lineup to partner with his close friend Sam Walker.

This decision follows Robinson's admission that his choice to reinstate veteran Chad Townsend "didn't work out" in what proved to be a costly defeat against Cronulla last week.

Currently positioned in 10th place and in need of every possible win, Robinson expressed confidence in Smith, emphasizing that he has communicated clear expectations for the young player following his return.

"I have full belief in the 22-year-old," Robinson stated, despite previously selecting Townsend over Smith.

Reflecting on last week's performance, Robinson acknowledged, "It didn't work out how we wanted last week." He underlined the dual nature of the situation: "We weren't happy with the way we played, but also, Sandon wasn't there for a reason." Robinson noted that he had pulled Smith from the reserve grade game last week and that Smith had a productive training week in preparation for this critical stage of the season.
