The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles secured a hard-fought 42-30 victory against the Newtown Jets in the final match of the NSW Cup at 4 Pines Park.
Joey Walsh played a pivotal role in the match, scoring two tries and contributing to several others, marking one of his standout performances in the maroon-and-white jersey.
Although Manly was out of the finals race, their freedom to play unencumbered was evident, as their attacking gameplay thrilled the crowd throughout the match.
The Jets opened the scoring in the seventh minute, leading 6-0 after capitalizing on a bouncing ball in the in-goal area.
Manly quickly responded, scoring three tries to take a commanding 16-6 lead within the first 30 minutes.
Walsh showcased his skill with a brilliant step to break through the defense and score his sixth try of the season in the 12th minute, leveling the match at 6-all.
Moments later, Navren Willett scored a try in a straightforward fashion. The Jets attempted a pass down their left edge, but Willett intercepted and sprinted 50 meters to score, putting Manly ahead 12-6.
Continuing their momentum, Zaidas Muagututia added to the score at the half-hour mark with a deceptive fake pass before darting past the defense to score in the left corner, extending their lead to 10 points.
