In Round 2 of the NRL Telstra Premiership, the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles faced a tough match, suffering a 36-16 defeat against the Newcastle Knights at 4 Pines Park.
The Knights dominated the first half, scoring four tries to take a commanding 20-point lead by halftime, a margin they held until the final whistle.
After a goal line dropout was awarded to Newcastle, they capitalized quickly, scoring during their initial possession.
Winger Greg Marzhew crossed over in the southeastern corner, exploiting a numbers advantage on the left side.
Moments later, Manly had a try disallowed when a bats back by Jason Saab was ruled forward, denying Reuben Garrick a score.
Newcastle struck again in the 12th minute, with Dom Young finishing off a clever play created by Kalyn Ponga and Dylan Brown, pushing the score to 12-nil.
It wasn't until Jamal Fogarty's impressive run from 25 yards out that the home crowd erupted, marking Manly's first try of the day.
