Forty-five years ago today, the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles once again showcased their dominance in the 1970s, as reported by seaeagles.com.au.
In a Grand Final Flashback, it was on September 19, 1978, that the Sea Eagles secured their fourth premiership title by defeating the Cronulla Sharks 16-0 in a NSWRL Grand Final replay.
The initial premiership decider between the two teams had taken place just three days earlier, on September 16, ending in an 11-all draw at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Interestingly, this was the second consecutive year that the NSWRL Grand Final had resulted in a mid-week replay, following the 1977 Grand Final between St George and Parramatta which ended in a 9-all draw.
Notably, the grand final replay marked the Sea Eagles' sixth game within a span of 24 days, with several players having to endure painful injections in order to take the field.
Terry Randall, a second-rower for the team, received a total of six injections - four in his shoulder and two in his groin.
The team's victory in 1978 secured their fourth premiership title, adding to their previous wins in 1972, 1973, and 1976.
