Phillip Sami, a centre and winger for the Gold Coast Titans, is set to join the St George Illawarra Dragons starting in the 2027 NRL season under a long-term contract.
Negotiations between Sami and the Dragons have been ongoing, as his future with the Titans has been uncertain for nearly a year.
Rumors about his potential departure from the Gold Coast surfaced in mid-2025, during which he expressed a willingness to consider joining the Perth Bears.
It was previously understood that there would be no place for Sami in the Titans' lineup past 2025, as indicated by then-coach Des Hasler.
However, the situation shifted with the introduction of Josh Hannay as the new head coach, leading to renewed discussions between the Titans and Sami, who has consistently performed well, scoring 71 tries in 145 games since his debut in 2017.
Nevertheless, Sami has made the decision to move to the Dragons for the 2027 season, with reports from News Corp confirming he has signed a three-year contract, covering 2027 through 2029.
Notably, the dynamic ball-runner is averaging 156 metres per game this year, despite the Titans still searching for their first win.
In Shane Flanagan's squad, Sami is expected to secure a position on the wing.
While the Dragons have added Setu Tu and David Fale for 2026, neither has yet proven to be standout players, and uncertainties remain about Christian Tuipulotu's future, as well as Tyrell Sloan, who may depart at the end of the season.
There are even rumors suggesting that the Titans might be considering the speedy player's return.
