Chris Irwin, CEO of Salford Red Devils, has resigned amid ongoing financial struggles for the Betfred Super League club.

The club confirmed his departure in a statement, expressing gratitude for his efforts and reaffirming, "The journey continues - Reds Rise Together."

Irwin's resignation comes as the club grapples with significant financial issues, having failed to pay players and staff on time for two consecutive months in February and March.

Following the delay in March, the club issued a statement noting, "As many will already know, the payroll wasn't delivered this morning as scheduled, despite assurances."

A consortium led by Swiss banker Dario Berta initially seemed to secure the club's future following a takeover in the summer.

However, they have since provided a series of excuses for the delayed payments.
