Salford Red Devils have been officially wound up following a HMRC hearing, marking the end of the club's 152-year history in its current form.
According to reports from skysports.com, the company that owns the team, Salford City Reds (2013) Limited, faced a winding-up petition from HM Revenue and Customs back in May.
The club was granted four adjournments by the court, which allowed them time to present proof of funds to address their obligations to creditors.
During an October hearing, Alexander Bunzl, representing Salford City Reds, claimed that "more than adequate" funding was expected to become available for a quick resolution.
However, no funds have emerged since that time.
On December 3, the court officially ordered the liquidation of Salford City Reds (2013), with reported debts nearing £4 million.
