Salford Red Devils 'blow the whistle on wage woes' as takeover scrum at Super League club continues

The players and staff at Salford Red Devils were left on the bench on Friday, according to head coach Paul Rowley.

Salford's tough start to the season has seen them tackle 156 points in their first three games after putting out a young squad in their first game against St Helens due to salary cap constraints while a takeover process was in play.

Before kicking off their first Super League match of the season, last year's fourth-placed team in the league announced a deal had been sorted with a consortium to acquire 100 per cent of the club in a play that should kick their current debts to touch.

Rowley had been banking on a full-time payment on Friday, but it looks like that play has been dropped.

If the players and staff are left on the sidelines without pay, the club could be sent back to square one under a Financial Stability Cap.

Rowley confirmed to Sky Sports on Friday: "We've not got the pay day yet.

We have been told that the funds are on the way from overseas, with plenty of checks and balances in place.

The players, coaching staff, and other support staff - no one has seen a cent yet.
