Jacob Saifiti's prospects for selection in Game 1 of the State of Origin series have taken a hit due to a calf injury, marking his second calf issue of the 2025 NRL season.
Playing for the Newcastle Knights against the Parramatta Eels, Saifiti could not finish the game, prompting coach Adam O'Brien to describe it as a "calf complaint." Reports from News Corp indicate that the Knights expect him to be sidelined for "a couple of weeks," which effectively removes him from contention for Laurie Daley's Game 1 squad.
This injury follows his recent return from a prior calf issue six weeks ago.
The NRL Physio mentioned on X (formerly Twitter) that this latest setback could extend his recovery time.
