Castleford Tigers have officially appointed Australian Ryan Carr as their new head coach, set to begin in the 2026 Super League season.

The 37-year-old is currently serving as an assistant coach alongside Shane Flanagan at the NRL's St George Illawarra Dragons in Australia. He will transition to the Tigers prior to the 2026 season.

Carr has secured a three-year contract, taking over from Danny McGuire, who was dismissed in July. In the interim, Chris Chester, the head of rugby, will continue his role as interim head coach.

"It's an exciting opportunity, it's a proud, historic club and I'm aware of where the club's been, where it came from and where it's going," Carr expressed. "I feel a lot of excitement on the direction that the club is heading in the near future."

Carr believes that "it deserves to be better than where it is, and that's where we need to take it. I feel the opportunity, and the room for growth is really fast at the club - I'm excited to get started."

Previously, Carr coached the Championship team Featherstone Rovers during the 2019 season, leading them to a fifth-place finish before they were eliminated by the Toronto Wolfpack in the Million Pound Game.
