NRL confirms law change for contested restarts

In a move that has been described as a game-changer, the NRL has announced a new law change that is set to revolutionize contested restarts in the upcoming 2024 season.

The aim of this change is to encourage more intense battles for possession from set restarts, injecting a much-needed element of excitement and unpredictability into the game.

Under the new rule, if a team kicks the ball out on the full or fails to make the required distance on a restart attempt, play will restart with a play-the-ball 10 meters out from the line of the kick and 10 meters in from touch.

This alteration aims to provide greater motivation for teams to take risks with short kick-offs or drop-outs, adding an extra layer of strategic depth to their gameplay.

As rugby league fans eagerly await the implementation of this rule, it's clear that the NRL is determined to keep pushing the boundaries and evolving the sport to ensure its continued popularity.

It is yet another example of the league's commitment to innovation and embracing change in the pursuit of an enthralling and dynamic competition.
