Rugby League veterans Reynolds and Hunt set to shine

Adam Reynolds goes public with family revelation as Ben Hunt lifts lid on brutal Wayne Bennett move

Adam Reynolds has revealed for the first time how a desire to have more space for his family played a part in his decision to make the switch from Sydney to Brisbane to join the Broncos.

And Ben Hunt has opened up on the brutal move from Wayne Bennett back in 2017 that has him primed to fire at five-eighth this season.

Reynolds and Hunt will combine in the halves for the Broncos in 2025 - at least until Ezra Mam returns from suspension in Round 10.

Both men are 34 years old, meaning they're among the oldest halves combinations in the history of the NRL.

Hunt has only played 10 of his 334 first-grade games at No.6, but is confident he'll have no troubles making the adjustment under Michael Maguire.

But Maguire might have rival coach Bennett to thank if Hunt is a revelation at five-eighth.

Bennett dumped Hunt to reserve-grade for one game in 2017, in which he played No.6 for Ipswich Jets.

Under innovative coaches Ben and Shane Walker, Hunt played with no shackles and set up four tries in a 44-24 win over Norths Devils.

It proved a turning point in his career and helped him return to his best.

"Wayne dropped me and that was a kick in the guts," Hunt said this week.

"When I first found out I was going to back to Ipswich I thought 'this is going to be ordinary', but it was a breath of fresh air for me under the Walker boys.

"I played five-eighth and they gave me a licence to do whatever I wanted.

I went out and had fun and had a great game.

I came back into the Broncos team, played Origin three weeks later and went to the World Cup at the end of the year."
