Rugby Australia has reportedly approached the Gold Coast Titans regarding the possibility of Carter Gordon's early release back to rugby union. Gordon was among two notable player departures from rugby union in 2024, with Mark Nawaqanitawase moving to the Sydney Roosters after representing Australia in Sevens at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The Roosters' winger has enjoyed a remarkable season, emerging as the NRL's top try-scorer and earning the Rugby League Players Association's Rookie of the Year award. However, he informed the Roosters on Tuesday of his intention to return to rugby union upon the conclusion of his current contract, aiming to prepare for a chance to compete in the World Cup on home soil.
While it remains uncertain if he will remain in rugby union for the long term, indications suggest he might return to the Roosters in 2028. Yet, The Roar Sports reports that Rugby Australia is eager to secure Gordon's return sooner, inquiring whether he is included in the Titans' plans for 2026.
The Titans have not yet responded to Rugby Australia's inquiry, as new coach Josh Hannay is still completing commitments with the Cronulla Sharks, who are competing in a preliminary final this weekend.
