Roosters receive Nellie Doherty Shield as record NRLW growth celebrated

The Sydney Roosters have made history by becoming the first team to be awarded the Nellie Doherty Shield. NRL CEO Andrew Abdo highlighted remarkable growth that positions the NRLW as the premier female sports league globally.

This shield honors Nellie Doherty, a trailblazer who advocated for women's rugby league over a hundred years ago. Going forward, the Nellie Doherty Shield will be presented annually to the minor premiers. Roosters coach John Strange and captain Isabelle Kelly received the award during the launch of the NRLW finals.
