Sam Walker is poised for a timely return to the Sydney Roosters following a disappointing loss to the Wests Tigers.

The Roosters, who were anticipated to dominate the match, experienced an unexpected defeat, losing 30-28 despite scoring five tries to four.

This loss has pushed them to ninth place on the NRL ladder, just two points behind the fifth-placed Broncos.

Walker, who has been recovering from an ACL injury and a subsequent broken hand, is expected to return in Round 19 against the Dragons.

The Roosters had indicated Walker would be sidelined for a month due to his hand injury, making his potential comeback this Saturday a significant boost for the team.

When Walker returns, he is likely to resume his position at halfback, shifting Hugo Savala to five-eighth and potentially relegating five-eighth Sandon Smith to a bench role or reserve-grade play.

Despite being a consistent part of the team throughout the season-even when Chad Townsend was at halfback-Smith now appears positioned to lose his spot in the lineup.

In Walker's absence, Savala has come to the forefront by outplaying Smith, notably contributing a try assist and achieving 393 kick metres during the recent match.

This performance underlines Savala's progression in the team's hierarchy, overtaking Smith in terms of playing time and impact.

Overall, the Roosters' predicament and potential adjustments highlight the importance of Walker's return as they work to regain their standing in the competition.
