Roosters Sign Rising Star Robert Toia Long-Term

The Sydney Roosters have successfully secured a significant retention deal, tying down rising centre Robert Toia until 2029.

Initially under contract until the end of 2027, Toia's agreement is set to see a substantial increase following an impressive 2025 season, which included his State of Origin debut for Queensland just ten matches into his NRL journey.

His exceptional performances earned him a spot in Billy Slater's team and positioned him as a top contender for the title of the NRL's most outstanding centre, despite being early in his career.

The 21-year-old's two-year extension effectively translates into a new four-year contract, with News Corp indicating that the deal is valued at over $2 million, averaging more than $500,000 per season.

In 2026, Toia is anticipated to be a key player in the Roosters' lineup and will assume an even more significant role in 2027, particularly with Mark Nawaqanitawase expected to leave the club.

Although the Roosters are bringing Reece Robson from the North Queensland Cowboys for the 2026 season, financial strain does not seem to be an issue, particularly given the player departures without replacement prior to 2025.

The future of fullback James Tedesco remains uncertain as he continues to approach retirement, opting to sign on a year-to-year basis.
