The Sydney Roosters have confirmed that young playmaker Hugo Savala will continue with the team for the next two years, extending his stay until the conclusion of the 2028 season.
Having recently celebrated his 24th birthday in April, Savala has progressed through the Roosters' pathways and has been invited to take on positions outside of his usual role.
With the addition of Daly Cherry-Evans, who may extend his contract for another year by activating his player option, Savala has discovered ways to contribute significantly, leveraging his 194cm stature and experience in the back row to adapt to a centre position.
Since transitioning to centre, he has established himself as a consistent member of the squad, earning praise from both teammates and coaching staff for his impressive adaptation to this new role.
His dedication to the Roosters has been clear, and while the team was hopeful for his continued commitment, Savala remarked that his decision to extend for another two years was an "easy decision."
"The Sydney Roosters mean a lot to me. I came through the junior reps here, and I've always dreamed of making a career at this Club, so I'm really happy to be staying," Savala stated in the club's official announcement.
"We've got such a close group, and I love being part of it. Everyone genuinely wants the best for each other, and I just want to keep improving, keep learning from Robbo and the senior players around me, and do whatever the team needs. That's always been my mindset, and it won't change," he added.
Joel Carbone, the Roosters Head of Recruitment, underscored the significance of Savala's extension, highlighting the club's increasing focus on retaining local talent.
