Roosters coach Trent Robinson has responded to reports that Joey Manu may be lured to the Dragons under the promise of playing fullback, stating that he doesn't expect Manu to go anywhere.
Manu is one of almost 200 NRL players who entered free agency on November 1, allowing them to negotiate with other clubs as their contracts near expiration.
The Dragons, led by Shane Flanagan, are rumored to be offering a $5 million mega-deal to Manu, with the belief that they can entice him by offering him the coveted No.1 jersey.
However, Robinson remains confident that Manu is content in Sydney and will stay with the Roosters, even if it means taking a pay cut and not playing fullback.
He acknowledges the ongoing conversations between Manu's manager and the club but asserts that Manu is a loyal Rooster.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the Dragons are preparing a four-year deal worth $1.2 million per season, making Manu one of the most expensive assets in the NRL.
Robinson, however, doubts that the Dragons have actually engaged in discussions with Manu and believes that they released the $5 million offer as a tactic to grab his attention.
He acknowledges Flanagan's efforts to rebuild the Dragons but suggests that the reported offer was merely a ploy to initiate contact with Manu's manager.
As of now, Robinson remains confident that Manu will continue his career with the Roosters.
