The Roosters' lackluster performance in their recent clash against the Dragons may not have showcased their attacking prowess, but it did give coach Trent Robinson some valuable insights.

It seems that a promising rookie, Robert Toia, has caught Robinson's eye and is poised to make his NRL debut in round 1.

Toia has battled through a string of injuries but is now ready to kick off the season with the Roosters.

Meanwhile, former Wallabies star Mark Nawaqanitawase has been testing his versatility by playing at left centre and fullback in a bid to secure a spot in the starting lineup.

With Joseph Manu and Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii making the switch to Rugby Union, Nawaqanitawase has a chance to shine on the wing after impressing in his previous appearance there.

Possessing the physical attributes required for any backline position, Nawaqanitawase showcased his skills against the Dragons with a try assist and ten powerful runs.

Robinson praised Nawaqanitawase's adaptability, hinting that he could even fill in for star fullback James Tedesco if needed.

"I could slot him on the wing tomorrow and he'd do the job," remarked Robinson after the match.

Looks like the Roosters have a new weapon in their arsenal as they gear up for the upcoming season.
