The Sydney Roosters NSW Cup team achieved a remarkable upset, defeating the third-placed Parramatta Eels 38-18 on July 6-7, 2025, despite missing 14 key players.
The victory is crucial for the Roosters' finals aspirations.
Fielding a notably inexperienced squad, the team had four players who previously represented them at the Under 19s level, including debuts for 19-year-olds Lachlan Dooner (centre), Kanaan Magele (prop), and new recruit Junior Tupou (wing).
In an impressive first half, the Roosters scored six tries, taking a commanding 28-6 lead at halftime.
Try Peni made headlines by scoring four of these tries, joined by NRL squad members Tupou and Ethan Roberts on the scoreboard.
The Eels performed better in the second half, with both teams scoring two tries.
Roosters' forwards Aston Warwick and local junior Hayden Barton added to their tally.
The match saw veteran halfback Chad Townsend captain the side due to the absence of Max McCathie and Jake Elliott, but he sustained a head injury in the 55th minute and failed his HIA.
The Roosters' impressive performance solidifies their place in the competition and showcases the talent coming through their ranks.
