Matty Johns revealed the significant influence Roosters boss Nick Politis holds when it comes to convincing players to join the club, as reports continue to link Daly Cherry-Evans with a move to the Bondi-based team.

The Roosters are said to have the salary cap space to sign Cherry-Evans and are expected to offer him a two-year deal, potentially enhancing their chances of winning a premiership in the near future.

Johns recalled a meeting with Politis back in 2000, where the boss's passion for the club and its history almost changed Johns' decision to play for Wigan in the Super League.

"Nick sat there, and before talking any money, he spoke about the history of the club," Johns explained.

"I was sitting there and I had to tell him to stop.

Because basically my dream was to play for Wigan, but the more he spoke, the more that dream was subsiding."

Johns also mentioned how Politis successfully convinced Cooper Cronk to join the Roosters in 2018, a move that culminated in a premiership for the club.

Despite initially being shocked by the decision, Johns was not surprised by Politis's ability to lure star players to the Roosters.

As for Cherry-Evans, staying in Sydney with the Roosters may provide a more convenient option for the player, as he wouldn't have to uproot his young family.

There are hints that in order to secure Cherry-Evans, the Roosters, or any other potential suitor, might request him to step down from State of Origin duties if he signs a two-year deal at the age of 36.

Overall, the influence of Nick Politis and the attractive prospect of playing for the Roosters have been highlighted as significant factors in players' decisions to join the club, with Cherry-Evans potentially becoming the latest beneficiary of Politis's persuasive powers.
