‘Not a crack at rugby’: Wallabies’ next NRL convert rubbishes ‘code war’ claims

In a recent interview with SMH, Mark Nawaqanitawase, the newest recruit for the Roosters, dismissed any notions of a "code war" as he prepared to make the switch from rugby union to rugby league.

The 23-year-old outside back made it clear that his decision was not motivated by a desire to take a swipe at his former code.

"I'm not doing this code change in any way to have a crack at rugby," he confidently asserted.

As he signed a two-year contract with the Tricolours club, Nawaqanitawase emphasized his commitment to his new team and the challenge that lay ahead in 2025 when he would officially join their ranks.

Yet, as Nawaqanitawase embarks on this cross-code venture, another rising star, Joseph Suaalii, will be making the reverse journey after securing a lucrative $5 million deal with Rugby Australia for the 2024 season.

Amidst these moves, rumors have circulated that the Roosters' decision to sign Nawaqanitawase was fueled by a desire to retaliate against the 15-man code.

However, the former Wallabies star dismisses these claims, stating that his motivation lies elsewhere.

With this promising new addition, the Roosters aim to reinforce their squad and bring a fresh wave of talent to the league.
