Spencer Leniu, once a promising front-rower for the Sydney Roosters, is set to leave the club after the current season as his role did not develop as anticipated.
The NSW Blues representative, who previously tasted success with the Penrith Panthers, was expected to step into a leadership role among the Roosters' forwards, filling the void left by Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.
However, his tenure did not yield the desired outcomes, and he is now preparing to join the Parramatta Eels, reuniting with teammates Jarome Luai and Mitchell Moses.
Brent Read, a reporter for CODE Sports, shared on NRL 360 that several factors influenced Sydney's choice to part ways with Leniu.
"I think it's a combination of things," Read stated, highlighting that limited playing time and salary cap constraints contributed to the decision.
"He was brought in to become a starting front-rower and he hasn't become a starting front-rower," Read noted.
He added, "He's paid to be a starting front-rower but he's been playing 20-30 minutes a game basically."
The situation raises questions about Leniu's discipline as well, with concerns impacting his standing within the team.
As the roster evolves, the Roosters must navigate salary cap pressures while balancing performance expectations for their players.
