The race for Sydney Roosters playmaker Sandon Smith has narrowed, as an NRL team that previously showed interest has reportedly dropped out.
According to zerotackle.com, Smith, once viewed as Luke Keary's successor after his departure at the end of 2024, has taken on a significant role this season, making nearly 50 NRL appearances at just 22 years old.
His performances have garnered recognition, including the 2025 Anzac Day Medal for an outstanding game against the St George Illawarra Dragons.
Despite his achievements, Smith's future looks uncertain as he is expected to be sidelined next season with the anticipated arrival of veteran Daly Cherry-Evans.
Additionally, the Roosters boast a strong lineup of emerging playmakers within their development system, featuring U19s NSW Blues representative Jake Elliott, 2025 SG Ball Cup Grand Final Player of the Match Toby Rodwell, and Tyson Walker, who is the younger brother of current player Sam Walker.
