Sydney Roosters chief Nick Politis has acquired the renowned Caxton Hotel in Brisbane for an estimated $50 million.

Situated just steps from Suncorp Stadium, the Caxton is a pivotal part of Brisbane's rugby league scene and was sold by the Farquhar family, who had run the establishment for nearly 30 years.

The sale was disclosed on a Queensland Government liquor and gaming register, although final approval is still awaited.

Through his company, SEQ Hospitality Group, Politis already operates eight hotels and 20 bottle shops in southeast Queensland, including notable venues like QA Hotel in Fortitude Valley, Ashmore Tavern, Boathouse Coomera, Tree Tops Tavern, and The Plough Inn.

With this new acquisition, Politis will now be competing directly with the NRL, which owns the nearby Beetson Hotel, once known as the Gambaro Hotel and named after rugby league icon Arthur Beetson.

The ARL Commission has invested over $1 million to revamp the Beetson into a "rugby league IMAX experience" sports bar, slated to open ahead of the 2026 season in Las Vegas.

Originally established in 1864, the Caxton Hotel has become a hub for rugby league activities, particularly during events like State of Origin and Magic Round, attracting thousands of fans who head to Suncorp Stadium.
