The Sydney Roosters have announced the arrival of Daly Cherry-Evans, a move that is likely to jeopardize the retention of one of their promising young talents.
Young sensation Hugo Savala is contemplating his options in the open market after the announcement that veteran halfback Cherry-Evans will be joining the team next season.
The 36-year-old Manly captain has signed a one-year contract with a potential extension for 2027, but his presence could mean that the Roosters might lose their emerging playmaker.
Savala has promptly indicated his intention to evaluate opportunities beyond the upcoming season after they formed a promising combination with Sam Walker in 2025.
"It wasn't as if the news came as a big surprise," Savala told the Sydney Morning Herald.
"I've had a chat to Robbo (coach Trent Robinson) about it previously.
"I'm sure I can learn a lot from DCE, and I'm super keen to compete for a spot in the side next season."
