Cronulla Sharks rookie Liam Ison's worst fears were confirmed as he suffered an ACL injury while playing for the Newtown Jets in the NSW Cup competition.
The injury, initially suspected to be an ACL tear, was confirmed by scans, ruling him out for the rest of the 2025 NRL season.
The club released a statement stating, "Scans last night have confirmed that young Sharks fullback Liam Ison ruptured his ACL while playing for Sharks partner club the Newtown Jets on Saturday." The 20-year-old player sustained the injury in the first 10 minutes of the game against Penrith and is set to undergo knee reconstruction surgery in the near future.
This unfortunate setback is a significant blow for the Cronulla Sharks as they navigate through the season without one of their promising young talents.
