St George Illawarra Dragons rookie Dylan Egan has received a contract extension before making his NRL first-grade debut this weekend.
The 20-year-old forward from Gerringong has signed a new two-year deal that will see him stay with the club until at least the end of the 2027 NRL season.
Egan has been part of the Dragons pathways system since his time in the Harold Matthews Cup competition, where he later captained the Illawarra Steelers SG Ball Cup team in 2023.
He then progressed to play in the Jersey Flegg Cup and the NSW Cup.
During his time in reserve-grade last year, Egan showcased his skills by playing 1871 out of a possible 1920 minutes.
He impressed with 849 tackles, 11 line-breaks, and 45 tackle busts.
Egan's dedication and performance have earned him this contract extension which reflects the confidence the club has in his potential.
This extension comes at a significant time as Egan is set to make his first-grade debut for the Dragons this weekend.
The Dragons have shown their faith in Egan by extending his contract and providing him with the opportunity to make his debut in the top tier of rugby league.
Egan's debut will be against the formidable Melbourne Storm, a tough challenge for any rookie.
However, Egan will have the support of his childhood friend Hamish Stewart as they both step up to the NRL together.
This contract extension and debut opportunity are well-deserved for Egan, who has worked hard to progress through the Dragons' development pathways to reach this point in his career.
It is a testament to his dedication, skill, and potential for the Dragons to offer him a new contract and a chance to prove himself at the highest level of the sport.
Egan's journey from junior competitions to reserve-grade and now first-grade exemplifies the pathway that many aspiring rugby league players strive to follow.
