Blues coach Michael Maguire has high hopes for rookie Connor Watson, comparing him to State of Origin legend Craig Wing.

Maguire believes Watson can bring a spark off the bench, much like Wing did for the Blues back in the day.

Watson, known for his livewire play, has been chosen over Matt Burton to provide that utility role in the upcoming game two.

After criticism for not having a true utility player in game one, the Blues have made five changes for the next match in Melbourne.

Watson, fresh off a successful return from injury with the Roosters, is set to make his Blues debut and is eager to make his mark.

"It'd be a dream come true for me," Watson said.

"Origin is the pinnacle of rugby league and to be able to represent my state would mean everything to me.

We'll see what happens, but I'm ready to give it my all."

As the Blues prepare to face off against the Maroons, Maguire is hoping Watson can channel the spirit of Wing and make a big impact off the bench.

With his versatility and energy, Watson has the potential to be a game-changer for the Blues, just like Wing was in his heyday.
