Roger Tuivasa-Sheck's inquiry into a potential return to fullback for the Warriors has been swiftly dismissed amid a bold statement from Kalyn Ponga
Tuivasa-Sheck emerged victorious in the clash of the Dally M champions.
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck made a grand entrance back to the fullback position, igniting the Warriors to a thrilling 20-12 victory over the Knights in Auckland on Sunday.
In a clash of Dally M Medalists, Tuivasa-Sheck - returning to the fullback spot for the first time since his rugby stint in 2021 - outshone Kalyn Ponga in a stellar showcase for the home team.
The Warriors' ace returned to the centres for his squad and displayed his prowess in the position during the initial three rounds.
However, with injuries sidelining both Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and Taine Tuaupiki, coach Andrew Webster had to move Tuivasa-Sheck to fullback, where he shone brightly, recording an impressive 28 runs for 278 meters, along with seven tackle breaks.
Commentator Andrew Voss of Fox League labeled the faceoff between Tuivasa-Sheck and Ponga as a fullback duel "for the ages," and both athletes put on a show in the first half.
Tuivasa-Sheck's standout moments included a crucial try-saving tackle on Enari Tuala, breaking through a tackle from Tyson Frizell, and a lengthy run from his own half where the nimble speedster left multiple defenders grasping thin air.
