Rival Team Eyes Panthers Forward Leaving

A key member of the Penrith Panthers' forward pack may soon be departing the team, as a rival club is reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

Liam Henry has significantly elevated his performance over the past two seasons, particularly after the exit of James Fisher-Harris. His contributions have been crucial, especially during the Panthers' victorious 2024 NRL Grand Final against the Melbourne Storm.

Having joined the Panthers in 2019 and progressed through their development pathways, the 24-year-old has become a reliable player on the rugby league field, with his potential continuing to grow as he gains more experience.

Currently off-contract at the conclusion of the 2026 NRL season, Henry has not yet secured an extension with the Panthers. His talent has caught the attention of the Perth Bears, who are considering him as a prospective addition to their inaugural roster, according to The Daily Telegraph.

As the Bears build their lineup from the ground up, there have been ongoing rumors of them pursuing either Henry or his teammate Lindsay Smith. Due to salary cap constraints, it appears the Panthers may struggle to retain both players.

Smith, viewed as a future leader of the forward pack, recently received a substantial offer from the Panthers, which would ensure he remains with the team "for life." At present, he holds a higher position on the team's depth chart than Henry.
