Preston Riki, a versatile forward who was one of 13 players farewelled by the Penrith Panthers, has reportedly received a chance to continue his NRL career with another team.
After spending four years with the Panthers, Riki's time at the club has concluded, leading him to embark on a new journey with his third NRL team. He initially began his professional career with the New Zealand Warriors.
According to News Corp, Riki will join the Brisbane Broncos on a train-and-trial contract for the 2026 NRL season. This opportunity comes in light of the recent departures of Kobe Hetherington, who has signed with the Manly Sea Eagles, and Tyson Smoothy, who will be moving to Wakefield Trinity.
Additionally, Jack Gosiewski is still in discussions with the Broncos regarding a new contract while he seeks to secure his position with the team.
It's worth noting that Preston Riki is not related to Jordan Riki, a former Maori All Stars representative. Preston aims to follow in the footsteps of Gehamat Shibasaki, who successfully transitioned from a train-and-trial contract to a development deal, ultimately becoming a regular player and participating in the State of Origin in 2025.
