Rival Club Pursues Kalyn Ponga Despite Commitment

Kalyn Ponga reaffirmed his commitment to the Newcastle Knights earlier this year, expressing his intention to stay with the club until his contract expires at the end of 2027.

However, his loyalty could be put to the test after that point. With uncertainty around the Knights' head coach position and the potential reconfiguration of key player roles, the Hunter region may not remain an attractive option for the Maroons fullback.

While the Sydney Roosters have been mentioned as a possible destination for Ponga, it appears that another club in Sydney is looking to secure his signature.

As reported by Triple M, an unnamed club from Sydney has reportedly entered the fray to acquire his services, potentially establishing a long-term relationship with Ponga.

"A high-profile Sydney NRL club are in secret conversations to sign Kalyn Ponga, and it's not the Sydney Roosters," according to the Triple M Whisper segment on the Beau, Cat and Woodsy Breakfast radio show.

There have even been suggestions that despite his earlier statements of loyalty to the Knights, the uncertainty regarding the club's direction and the recent dismissal of Adam O'Brien could lead Ponga to seek an early release from his contract.

Neither the Knights nor Ponga have commented on these rumors. However, given Ponga's ongoing links to a potential exit from the club, it seems likely that speculation will only intensify as time goes on.
