In Australia's outback, local rugby clubs serve as vital social centers, fostering connections and healthy rivalries.
However, in the small town of Thargomindah, situated 935 kilometers from Brisbane, the rugby field had remained dormant for two decades.
Resident Dylan Andrews recounted, "It was a Friday afternoon, and we were all just sitting around having a beer after work … I was like, 'It'd be cool to get the team back up.'
Having recently relocated from Toowoomba, Mr. Andrews was struck by the absence of rugby league in the area.
"Everyone said yes and then I printed out a sheet and just went around town," he explained.
This initiative turned into the talk of the community, igniting considerable enthusiasm.
With around 30 interested individuals, a new team emerged, consisting of a mix of tradespeople, enthusiastic locals, and even former NRL player Mack Mason.
Mr. Andrews's efforts inspired neighboring towns like Cunnamulla and Charleville to join in the competitive spirit.
Although the Thargomindah Bulls did not secure a win against the Charleville Comets in their inaugural match last weekend, their defeat has only fueled their determination.
