Why Chad Townsend was picked for NRL return

Roosters coach Trent Robinson has explained his choice to bring veteran Chad Townsend back to the NRL to partner Sam Walker in the halves, a decision that keeps Sandon Smith in NSW Cup for another week.

Reports indicate that Hugo Savala is likely to be sidelined for "a week or two" due to ligament damage to his left wrist sustained during a tackle, leading many to anticipate Smith's return.

Despite having played the first five rounds without registering any try assists, Townsend has shown solid form in NSW Cup.

Robinson expressed satisfaction in rewarding the experienced playmaker with a recall.

He remarked, "It's really nice when you tell a 280-odd gamer that he's playing again (and you see) the passion and joy that's in someone's eyes." He commended Townsend's character, emphasizing his positive attitude and the energy he brings to reserve grade, alongside his coaching efforts with younger players.
