Former NRL and Super League utility player, Sione Mata'utia, recently shocked the rugby league world by announcing his retirement, only to quickly make a U-turn and jump back into the game.
With 11 seasons and 209 matches under his belt, Mata'utia has signed a two-year deal with the Lakes Seagulls in the Newcastle Rugby League competition, where he will team up with his older brother, Peter Mata'utia.
Having previously donned the jersey of the Newcastle Knights and tasted success in the NRL, Mata'utia brings a wealth of experience to his new team.
His aim is to lead the Lakes to the grand final, a feat they narrowly missed out on this past season.
After a stint in the Super League, where he hoisted back-to-back Grand Final trophies and triumphed in the World Club Challenge against the Penrith Panthers, Mata'utia is eager to make his mark once again on Australian soil.
A proud Australian Kangaroos representative on three occasions, Mata'utia is no stranger to the big stage.
Throughout his career, he has showcased his versatility by playing in a multitude of positions, from the backline to the second row.
With a burning desire to succeed and a never-say-die attitude, Mata'utia's return to the field is sure to ignite the Lakes Seagulls and propel them to greater heights in the upcoming season.
