Rugby Football League (RFL) chief executive, Tony Sutton, has expressed his disgust at the homophobic abuse directed towards referee Marcus Griffiths on social media.

Griffiths, who recently officiated the Huddersfield Giants versus Leeds Rhinos match, shared screenshots of the derogatory messages he received on Instagram.

The RFL and the entire rugby league community have rallied behind Griffiths, condemning the abhorrent behavior he has endured.

Sutton stated, "All in the sport will condemn the appalling abuse which Marcus has received on social media." The RFL is committed to providing support to Griffiths, partnering with Rugby League Cares to ensure his well-being.

Additionally, the league has collaborated with relevant authorities, be it digital platforms or law enforcement, to address this issue.

Homophobic abuse has no place in rugby league or any sport for that matter, and the RFL is determined to take a strong stance against such behavior.
