South Sydney's woeful season has hit a new low, as Dean Hawkins and Jye Gray face around two months on the sidelines.
Gray was on the wrong end of an ugly hip-drop tackle by Panthers' Izack Tago, resulting in an ankle injury that requires surgery.
Meanwhile, Cameron Murray's hip flexor injury will see him out for eight weeks after the same game.
The injury crisis at the Rabbitohs means Jack Wighton will step up in the halves in place of Hawkins, who suffered a quadricep injury.
Lachlan Ilias, the starting halfback at the beginning of the season, is also out with a long-term leg injury suffered after being dropped in March.
With Hawkins out, Wighton will likely move from the centres to the halves for the upcoming clash against St George Illawarra.
Cody Walker and Wighton are expected to form a new halves partnership, with youngster Dion Teaupa potentially making his NRL debut as another option.
Rookie fullback Gray's absence for the next two months is a major setback for South Sydney, but the return of Latrell Mitchell after a suspension of three matches provides some relief for the team.
