The pressure is mounting on Jason Demetriou to shake things up for the struggling Rabbitohs, with many calling for star fullback Latrell Mitchell to be moved back to centre after some not-so-stellar performances.
The Rabbitohs hit rock bottom on Friday night, getting pummeled 48-6 to kick off the NRL season with a dismal 0-3 record for 2024.
Under Demetriou's leadership, the Rabbitohs have only managed to win four out of their last 16 games.
Adding to their woes, they have dropped their last five games in a row dating back to last season, failing to make the top eight in 2023.
To compound their troubles, Mitchell has been criticized for his lacklustre defending and positioning at fullback.
A particularly glaring moment that riled up NRL fans occurred during a Roosters' try when the score was 24-6.
Roosters' five-eighth Sandon Smith kicked a grubber through the defensive line just 10 metres out near the sideline.
Shockingly, the South Sydney defense offered little resistance, allowing two Roosters players to swoop in and score without a challenge.
Mitchell was nowhere in sight, leaving fans fuming over his defensive lapse.
It may be time for Demetriou to make a tough call and shuffle Mitchell to a different position for the team's benefit.
