The Newcastle Knights have been left to rue a close defeat in Townsville, as Kyle Feldt's heroics for the Cowboys secured a 28-16 victory in the elimination final on Saturday night.

Feldt, who is set to depart for St Helens, made sure his NRL journey continued for another week with a standout performance.

The veteran winger ran an impressive 281 metres, including an intercept try and a crucial contribution to two late tries that sealed the win for the Cowboys.

Despite Newcastle superstar Kalyn Ponga's threatening runs, Feldt outshone him in the early stages of the game, making key plays that swung the momentum in favor of the Cowboys.

His interception try and tactical tap back for Rueben Cotter's score in the 73rd minute proved decisive in the tight contest.

Ponga, on the other hand, showed glimpses of brilliance but ultimately couldn't match Feldt's impact.

The Knights briefly took control of the game in the first half, with Jayden Brailey's try leveling the scores after a dazzling run from Ponga.

In the end, the gallant Knights fell just short as the Cowboys' experience and composure saw them edge out the victory.

It was a hard-fought battle that showcased the intensity and drama that Rugby League is known for, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.
