Queensland Maroons coach Billy Slater is poised to extend his tenure with the state following a successful State of Origin campaign.
The Queensland Rugby League (QRL) is eager to secure Slater on a longer-term contract to deter interest from NRL clubs seeking new head coaches.
QRL chief Ben Ikin expressed his desire for Slater to remain in the role, stating, "We're trying to hold him for as long as we can." He added that discussions would need to take place with the board regarding Slater's future.
Ikin emphasized Slater's significant contributions, noting, "based on what you saw in this series and what he's delivered for us so far, you want him to stick around for as long as he is enthusiastic about the job."
