Queensland's Origin decisions: Shocking but not shocking

LeagueNews.co | Jess Malloy

Queensland Maroons head coach Billy Slater is reportedly set to make a surprising selection for Game 3 of the State of Origin series, potentially debuting Brisbane Broncos outside back Gehamat Shibasaki.

According to multiple sources, Slater aims to introduce Shibasaki for the crucial Origin Decider in Sydney as the Maroons look to reclaim the shield lost in 2024.

Shibasaki's journey is noteworthy; he began this season on a train-and-trial contract with the Broncos and has emerged as one of the team's standout performers in recent months.

In his 15 appearances, he has tallied an impressive 12 tries, made 58 tackle busts, and recorded 13 line breaks.

Alongside this, he has been averaging 147 running metres per match along with contributing three try assists.

The decision to promote Shibasaki to the Origin level reflects both his exceptional form and the Maroons' desire to strengthen their squad for the decisive match.
