Maarire Puketapu, a dedicated back rower for the NZ Warriors, has secured a two-year extension on her NRLW contract, which will last until the end of the 2027 season. This recognition comes after her standout debut season.
At just 23 years old and hailing from Lower Hutt, Puketapu was among several players entering the club's return to competition without prior NRLW experience.
With a background as a former New Zealand softball representative, Puketapu transitioned late into rugby league, initially competing in the Wellington league before moving to Australia, where she played for the Central Queensland Capras and the Sunshine Coast Falcons in the Queensland premiership.
Despite her limited experience at the top level, Puketapu showcased her talent during the preseason, securing a place in the Warriors' lineup for their comeback match against the Sydney Roosters in July. She subsequently participated in 10 of the team's 11 games.
Puketapu expressed her excitement about returning to camp for the upcoming 2026 campaign.
