"Ponga's disappointment comes after he revealed he had made himself available for the Kangaroos following his decision to step away from representative football in 2023.
"I spoke to Mal after that and said that I was available for selection and that I was feeling good," Ponga said.
"But in saying that, it's not all bad.
I'm excited to see what the boys can do and I'll be cheering them on.
It's just motivation for me to get back to that level and play well for the Knights."
Ponga's focus has now turned to reclaiming his Maroons jersey after missing out on Kangaroos selection, with the 24-year-old aiming to make a strong start to the 2024 NRL season.
"I want to get back into the Queensland team and I want to be playing good footy for the Knights," Ponga said.
"It's just motivation for me to keep working hard and hopefully I can get back there."
With the disappointment of missing out on Kangaroos selection driving him, Ponga is determined to prove himself and regain his place in the representative arena.
