In a stunning display of resilience and skill, Kalyn Ponga has claimed the prestigious 2023 Danny Buderus Medal on the official Newcastle Knights website.

Despite facing significant challenges earlier in the season, Ponga rose above adversity to lead the Knights into the finals and secure his third Buderus Medal, having previously won in 2018 and 2020.

As the team's fullback, Ponga showcased his talent throughout the season, making 18 appearances and impressively scoring eight tries, converting 40 goals, and providing 20 try-assists.

Particularly noteworthy was his exceptional form in the later rounds, leaving a lasting impact on the competition.

The Player of the Year award was fiercely contested, with Ponga narrowly overtaking Dane Gagai, Tyson Frizell, and Leo Thompson - all of whom had outstanding seasons in the red and blue jersey.

Following the ceremony, Ponga expressed his gratitude and joy at receiving the award, with the medal presented to him by Danny Buderus and Head Coach Adam O'Brien.
