PNG Minister Pushes for NRL Debut in Vegas

Could the PNG Chiefs be set to play their inaugural NRL match in Las Vegas?

Kinoka Feo, Papua New Guinea's sports minister, is eager for the Chiefs to launch their NRL journey amid the dazzling atmosphere of Sin City in 2028.

Believing in the NRL's ambition to expand globally, Feo sees this as a golden opportunity for the club to make a strong debut.

In a conversation with the Sydney Morning Herald, Feo expressed his hope that the team's participation would spark excitement among the locals in PNG and unify the nation around their new team.

"Obviously, they will want the best from within the NRL but for Papua New Guineans, coming to the world stage would be something huge," he remarked.

To entice players to move to the Melanesian country, they will be offered tax exemptions and accommodation in luxurious, gated compounds alongside their families.

This week, Feo traveled to Las Vegas to discuss this potential franchise debut with ARL Chairman Peter V'landys and NRL CEO Andrew Abdo.

Additionally, the sports minister hopes to recruit Wayne Bennett, believing the renowned coach would be instrumental in successfully launching their campaign, similar to what he achieved with the Dolphins.
