PNG Chiefs await Hudson Young valuation

Hudson Young celebrates victory with Canberra Raiders

The NRL now allows players to challenge their market value in particular circumstances, but its salary cap auditor must approve every contract figure.

Previously, market value was based on what a rival club would pay.

The valuation process is complicating the PNG Chiefs' pursuit of Hudson Young, who can negotiate with rival clubs from November 1.

Canberra's latest offer is $1.1 million per season on a four-year extension, increased from an initial three-year proposal.

The Chiefs hope Young's value has fallen to $900,000 annually after he injured his Achilles in July.

Young hopes to return in 2027, while negotiations with the Raiders continue.

His agent, Sam Ayoub, would need to speak with the NRL or RLPA to settle a $900,000 valuation, $300,000 below Canberra's offer.

Code Sports reports the Chiefs will not pay $10,000 for flights, transfers and accommodation for Young and Ayoub without a concrete figure from the NRL.

The club, the NRL's 19th team, is divided over its next steps.

Although Young has permission to inspect the Chiefs' facilities, the club says he will travel only after agreeing to a deal worth $900,000 per season.
