Phil Gould tackles Reed Mahoney gossip rumors

Canterbury Bulldogs had to set the record straight on the swirling rumors about star hooker Reed Mahoney being tossed around to other clubs during the off-season.

Phil Gould, the GM of Football, stepped up to the plate to clear the air and put an end to the speculation.

The whisper mill went into a frenzy on Thursday, with reports claiming that Mahoney's name was being floated around as a potential trade target, despite still being locked in with the Bulldogs for the next couple of seasons.

With a hefty salary of around $625,000 per season, this news came at a rather awkward time for Mahoney, especially considering his stellar performance in the NRL during the 2024 season.

He even made it to the extended squad for the QLD Maroons, filling in for the likes of Harry Grant.

"I've got a strong hunch that the former skipper Reed Mahoney was on the market during the off-season," murmured The Triple M Whisper in a recent segment on Triple M Breakfast with Beau, Tarsh & Woodsy.

But fear not, Bulldogs fans! Phil Gould has swooped in to quash these rumors, setting the record straight that neither the club nor Mahoney's camp had any intention of shopping him around to rival teams.

It looks like Mahoney will remain a loyal Bulldog for the foreseeable future.
