Phil Gould, the director of rugby league for the Canterbury Bulldogs, has been hospitalized since Monday due to what are described as "significant health concerns."
Channel 9's Danny Weidler has confirmed that he spoke to Gould recently, while News Corp reported that Gould voluntarily admitted himself to the hospital on Monday. He is currently awaiting test results related to a heart condition.
Despite his hospitalization, Gould remains active, performing his duties via email from his hospital bed.
Gould recently extended his contract with the Bulldogs until the end of 2031 and has played a crucial role in transforming the team into a competitive force over the past two seasons. The Bulldogs made the finals for the first time in over five years last season, and they are projected to be a top-four team in 2025.
Although they were eliminated from the finals in straight sets, the Bulldogs are progressing well, with head coach Cameron Ciraldo also securing a contract through to 2031, alongside Gould.
Having spent five seasons with the Bulldogs, Gould previously contributed significantly to the Penrith Panthers, where he was instrumental in the club's advancement over the last decade.
